  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups frozen mashed potatoes (or homemade)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined.
  3. Form the mixture into small hamburger patties and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup with Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Pour the soup mixture evenly over the hamburger steaks.
  6. Spread frozen or prepared mashed potatoes over the top of the casserole.
  7. Sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheeses on top.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the beef is cooked through and the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.
