Description

Learn how to make a delicious Caramel Brulée Latte at home with this easy recipe. This recipe recreates the popular Starbucks holiday drink using simple ingredients and a homemade caramel brulee sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Caramel Brulee Sauce:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • For the Latte:
  • 2 shots espresso or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1 cup milk
  • 23 tablespoons caramel brulee sauce
  • Whipped cream, for topping
  • Caramel bits or turbinado sugar, for topping

Instructions

  1. Make the Caramel Brulee Sauce: Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves. Stop stirring and let the mixture bubble until it turns deep amber (5-7 minutes). Remove from heat. Carefully whisk in heavy cream, then add butter, vanilla, and salt. Stir until smooth. Let cool slightly; the sauce will thicken.
  2. Brew Your Espresso: Pull two shots of espresso or brew strong coffee. Add 2-3 tablespoons of caramel brulee sauce to a mug. Pour hot espresso over the sauce and stir well.
  3. Steam and Add the Milk: Heat milk to 150-160°F. Froth the milk until foamy. Pour the steamed milk over the espresso and caramel mixture, holding back the foam.
  4. Top and Serve: Spoon the foam on top of the latte. Add whipped cream if desired. Drizzle with extra caramel brulee sauce and sprinkle with caramel bits or turbinado sugar. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For deeper flavor, caramelize the sugar until dark amber, but not burnt.
  • Use room temperature heavy cream to prevent the caramel from seizing.
  • Heat milk to 140-160°F; overheated milk tastes burnt.
  • The caramel brulee sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • For an iced version, cool the espresso and sauce mixture, pour over ice, add cold milk, and top with cold foam and drizzle.
  • For a dairy-free option, use coconut cream and oat or almond milk.
  • For a sugar-free alternative, use a sugar substitute like erythritol or monk fruit sweetener.
  • Add cinnamon or nutmeg to the sauce for a spiced variation.
  • Torch turbinado sugar on top of the whipped cream for a crispy, caramelized finish.
