  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button mushrooms)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 French baguette, sliced into ½-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for brushing)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the baguette into ½-inch thick slices. Arrange on a baking sheet, and brush with melted butter or olive oil. Bake for 8–10 minutes until golden and crispy. Set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If needed, add a splash of water to prevent sticking and enhance caramelization.
  3. Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet with caramelized onions, along with thyme. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the mushrooms soften, then add garlic and cook for another minute. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Spoon the caramelized onion and mushroom mixture onto each toasted baguette slice. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
