Description
Cowboy Mushrooms are a quick and flavorful side dish featuring buttery, garlicky mushrooms simmered in a savory Worcestershire and soy sauce blend. They offer a rustic, hearty taste perfect for pairing with steaks, chicken, or pork.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (about 450g) baby bella mushrooms (cremini)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper (or to taste)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Clean the mushrooms by gently wiping them with a damp paper towel. Trim stems if needed, but leave mushrooms whole.
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat until bubbly.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Avoid browning.
- Add the mushrooms to the skillet. Cook for 7-9 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to brown and release their juices.
- Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce. Add the cracked black pepper and stir to coat the mushrooms.
- Simmer for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and cling to the mushrooms.
- Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley. Serve hot.
Notes
- Baby bella mushrooms provide a deep, earthy flavor. White button mushrooms can be used as an alternative.
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
- To make this dish vegan, use plant-based butter and a vegan Worcestershire sauce alternative.
- Consider adding sliced onions or bell peppers for a heartier cowboy mushroom variation.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of water or extra butter.
