Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional Topping: Powdered sugar glaze, chopped nuts, or chocolate drizzle

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in egg, molasses, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Press dough evenly into prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until set and lightly browned around edges.
  8. Allow to cool completely in the pan, then cut into bars.
  9. Optional: Drizzle with glaze or sprinkle with nuts or chocolate for decoration.
