Description
This homemade green apple syrup is a delightful, versatile topping that’s perfect for drizzling over pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, and more.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups chopped green apples (about 4 medium apples)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped green apples, sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until the apples are very soft and the liquid has reduced by about half.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the fresh lemon juice.
- Using a fine-mesh strainer, strain the apple mixture to separate the solids from the liquid syrup. Discard the solids.
- Transfer the green apple syrup to a clean jar or container and let cool to room temperature before using.
Notes
- Store the syrup in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Adjust the sugar based on your sweetness preference.
- This syrup works well in cocktails too.
