Ingredients
Scale
- 85 g unsalted butter
- 6 cups regular marshmallows
- 4 cups Rice Bubbles (Rice Krispies)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Red food coloring
Instructions
- Bring ½ cup water to a boil in a small pot.
- Place a large heatproof bowl over the pot (bain-marie).
- Add the butter and marshmallows to the bowl.
- Whisk continuously until the marshmallows melt and the mixture becomes a smooth paste (about 2–4 minutes).
- Remove the bowl from the heat.
- Stir in the salt and one or more drops of red food coloring, whisking well for even color distribution.
- In a separate large bowl, pour in the Rice Bubbles.
- Pour the marshmallow mixture over the Rice Bubbles.
- Mix quickly and thoroughly to coat each Rice Bubble before the marshmallow firms up.
- Lightly oil your hands.
- Scoop portions of the mixture and shape into oval brain-like forms.
- Use a butter knife to make a dent in the middle of each to mimic the sulcus (brain fold).
- Dip a toothpick into red food coloring to draw veins for extra gruesome effect.
- Store in an airtight container.
Notes
- If using salted butter, omit or reduce the added salt.
- Mini marshmallows can be used; measure by volume.
- Oil hands well or use gloves to prevent sticking when shaping.
- Adjust the size of the brains as desired.
- Consider drizzling melted chocolate or candy melt for different vein effects.
