- 1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the applesauce, oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Gradually stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan before slicing. Serve plain or with cream cheese frosting.
