Description
Create a captivating rain cloud in a jar science experiment that visually demonstrates how rain forms. This easy and fun activity is perfect for kids to explore weather concepts.
Ingredients
- 1 clear jar or cup (mason jar recommended)
- 1 can of foamy shaving cream
- Water
- A few drops of blue food coloring
- 1 small cup or bowl
- 1 dropper, straw, or spoon
Instructions
- Fill the clear jar about three-quarters full with water. This represents the atmosphere.
- Shake the shaving cream can and spray a fluffy layer over the water to create the cloud.
- In the small cup, mix a few drops of blue food coloring with a little water to make your ‘rainwater’.
- Use the dropper, straw, or spoon to gently drip the blue mixture onto the shaving cream cloud and observe the ‘rain’ falling through.
Notes
- Use foamy shaving cream, not gel, for the best cloud effect.
- Experiment with different food coloring colors for varied rain effects.
- Supervise young children during the experiment.
- Clean up promptly to prevent food coloring stains.
- This is a demonstration, not an actual weather prediction tool.
