- ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (200g) brown sugar
- ⅓ cup (110g) molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Combine melted butter, brown sugar, and molasses. Mix until smooth, then add egg and blend well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Scoop dough into balls (about 1½ tbsp each) and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
- Bake 8–10 minutes until edges are set and tops puff slightly. Don’t overbake.
- Cool 5 minutes on tray, then transfer to wire rack.
- Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth but thick enough to drizzle.
- Once completely cooled, drizzle glaze and let set 20–30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Melted butter keeps cookies soft and rich; use unsalted for flavor control.
- Choose unsulfured molasses for mellow sweetness.
- Add nutmeg or cardamom for extra warmth.
- Real maple syrup gives the glaze authentic flavor.
- Substitute a 1:1 gluten-free blend if needed.
