Description
Southern Style Banana Split Cake is a delicious dessert that combines the flavors of banana, cream cheese, and whipped cream in a moist cake.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large ripe bananas, mashed
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)
- Maraschino cherries for topping
- Chocolate syrup for drizzling
- Additional sliced bananas for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the mashed bananas, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- If using, gently fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in their pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until well combined.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
- Decorate the top with sliced bananas, drizzle with chocolate syrup, and top with maraschino cherries.
