Description

Create dazzling Sunset Glow Candy Apples with vibrant pink and orange swirls and a magical sparkle. This easy-to-follow recipe is perfect for a fun kitchen activity with kids or friends, offering a delightful sweet treat with a satisfying crunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 fresh apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 6 lollipop sticks or paper straws
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ tsp gel food coloring (pink and orange)
  • Edible glitter (gold, pink, or rainbow sparkle)

Instructions

  1. Wash apples thoroughly and dry them completely to ensure the candy coating adheres well. Remove any wax from the apples.
  2. Insert lollipop sticks or paper straws firmly into the top of each apple.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. In a heavy saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water.
  5. Stir the mixture gently and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
  6. Cook the syrup until it reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer, which is the hard crack stage. Remove from heat immediately.
  7. Divide the hot candy syrup into two separate heatproof bowls.
  8. Tint one bowl of syrup with orange gel food coloring and the other with pink gel food coloring.
  9. Working quickly, tilt the bowls slightly. Dip each apple first into the orange syrup, coating the top half, then dip the lower half into the pink syrup to create a sunset gradient.
  10. While the candy coating is still sticky, sprinkle generously with edible glitter for a shimmering effect.
  11. Place the coated apples onto the prepared parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  12. Allow the candy apples to harden at room temperature for about 15 minutes.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry after washing for best coating adhesion.
  • Use a reliable candy thermometer for accurate temperature measurement.
  • Work quickly when dipping the apples to maintain vibrant colors.
  • Have edible glitter ready for immediate application while the candy is still sticky.
  • Experiment with different food coloring shades for unique color combinations.
